The project PANKISI ALLER RETOUR is a joint effort based on the role of the spectator in our society. The principle is to take a given situation related by the media (in this case, the Pankisi Gorge, located between Georgia and Chechnya) and to relate this situation passing by other filters. Initially, the information had been fixed by Philippe Servent through his photographic evidence. This is followed, upon returning from Georgia, by a dialogue between Philippe and Richard Höglund, thus transmitting this evidence through another mediation. Each discussion serves as a point of depart for the next filter: Richard Höglund’s abstract line drawings, realized on large plates of black rubber. The rubber plates (the final artistic filter) are installed on the floor, between the viewer and the photo. One must, therefore, regard the photo across the space of the drawing, following the slight curve back up and through Philippe Servent’s window into the real situation.
